Coming Soon!

April 16, 2013

As promised I will have a video review of the JVC GC-PX100 soon. I have put in my rental order to Lensrentals.com and it should be here on April 18th. I’ll take it through various environments over the 4 days that I have it and put together a video blog and some final words about the experience.

As always, stay tuned…

Back for another run

January 11, 2013

As usual I had a long layoff. I’ve got to learn to write even when I am busy!

There is a lot to catch up on including (but not limited to) an A/V install in West Virginia, new equipment reviews and a run down of a video shoot that I did.

As always, stay tuned!

Wireless Mic (Quick Hit)

June 21, 2012

http://www.woot.com/offers/handheld-microphone-system

So Woot is selling a UHF wireless mic for $69 ($5 shipping included) and I thought I would bite to at least test it out. Don’t be fooled by the $159 “list price” because Amazon and B&H are selling it for around $100. A UHF wireless mic for under $75 is tempting as a wireless mic usually goes for 4 times that amount.
When it comes to audio equipment the saying “You Get What You Pay For…” usually holds true; though B&H has 36 UHF wireless mics for under $100 it is very rare to find top notch microphone of any quality in that price range. However, since there are no reviews on this product that I can find from a dealer I trust I am willing to take one for you guys and test this mic out for myself. Stay tuned.

More 4K

May 24, 2012

Shane Hurlbut recently tweeted about a short film he worked on called The Ticket. While working on The Ticket he used the new Canon 1DC: a new DSLR that records in 4K. When I asked him about his thoughts on the 1DC he was kind enough to reply with his blog post on the camera. As you will see from his post he is in love with the 1DC.

While it is way out of my price range (coming in at $15k) it did spark a conversation where a com-padre of mine mentioned the new 2.5K Blackmagic Design camera. At $3000 I could see getting this instead of the $5k JVC 4K camera that I posted about earlier. I would love to get my hands on ALL these cameras to contrast and compare.

Power of video

April 27, 2012

Just wanted to highlight a great video produced by a very creative guy I had to pleasure of working with on a project in North Carolina recently.

He does good work with lighting and seems to have a special way of telling a story. More information to come.
